Canadian Human Rights Commission consolidates its regional services starting June 30, 2010
The Canadian Human Rights Commission will close three regional offices on June 30th, in Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax. The closures are expected to help the Commission streamline its management structures and enhance its focus on priority initiatives.
The CHRC will maintain a western, central and eastern presence through its Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal offices. The prevention services that were offered in Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax will be provided by the three consolidated regional centres, where additional front-line positions will be created.
The complaint process is unchanged and there will be no reduction of service. Clients will contact the Commission as they have in the past. Consolidating the regional offices provides the opportunity to centralize reception services which will make it easier for members of the public to access all of the Commission’s services.
Commission mediators and conciliators will continue to deliver direct service in every province and territory. The National Aboriginal Initiative, based in Winnipeg, will not be affected by the changes.
These decisions originate from a review of all aspects of service delivery. The Commission determined that consolidating its regional presence and streamlining its management structure would strengthen programs while maintaining service levels.
